Professor Sebastian Szybka will take us on a journey through these fascinating topics. He will explain how science has arrived at such exotic concepts as the Big Bang and the primordial singularity, and what modern cosmology reveals about them. We’ll learn how contemporary research helps us understand these fundamental questions and what they mean for our knowledge of the Universe.

Have you ever wondered where Earth's water comes from? Or perhaps you're curious about what lies in the depths of space, where comets and asteroids orbit on their distant paths? Answers to these questions may come from the HYADES mission, an innovative project led by the Jagiellonian University.

HYADES is a space mission aimed at building a small but highly precise telescope that will be launched into low Earth orbit. This telescope will be capable of detecting hydrogen and deuterium—two key components of water—around comets and asteroids by studying a specific spectral line in the far-ultraviolet range, known as Lyman-alpha.

Why is this so important? Firstly, this research will allow scientists to finally determine whether comets delivered water to Earth billions of years ago. Secondly, HYADES will help explore how much hydrogen surrounds comets in the asteroid belt, revolutionizing our understanding of these distant objects. Lastly, the mission will enable the search for mysterious interstellar objects passing through our Solar System, helping us understand their extraordinary properties.

A journey to Mars is a dream of humanity, but how can astronauts ensure they have the necessary oxygen for breathing and fuel for the return trip to Earth? The answer might be MOXIE - a groundbreaking experiment that has proven oxygen can be produced on Mars using the planet's atmosphere.

MOXIE, or the Mars Oxygen ISRU Experiment, is a device that operated for 2.5 years on NASA's Perseverance rover, converting carbon dioxide from the Martian atmosphere into oxygen. But how does this revolutionary system work, and why is it so crucial for future Mars missions?

Jeffrey Hoffman, an American astronaut and MIT professor, will discuss the reasons for producing oxygen using Mars' local resources, explain how MOXIE operates, and share the latest achievements of the Perseverance mission, which is collecting Martian rock samples in search of signs of ancient life. We will also learn about the plans scientists have for using robots to support future crewed missions to the Red Planet.

In this talk, Aditya Narendra will be talking about the amazing power of gamma-ray bursts, the brightest and most powerful explosion in the Universe. Then he will explain how his research uses machine learning to find the distance to these objects.
